The language hat is a wearable computer that is worn on the head and can translate anything thought in the mind of the wearer into any language registered in the hat.

Unlike most translators, the language hat can directly express anything the wearer has in the mind in any language registered in the hat, the wearer can express whatever in his or her mind in words through the hat even if he/she has Wernicke's Aphasia.

The language hat was initially designed as an assistive device for people with aphasia or severe autism to facilitate communication[1]; however, it soon became popularized as a tool for communication between people of different linguistic backgrounds; also the language hat is not a telepathic device, it can only translate thoughts into languages and express it, it cannot send thought directly to other people.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  1. The language hat is also used for people with locked-in syndrome or cerebral palsy, though technically people with locked-in syndrome or cerebral palsy don't have aphasia, as people with locked-in syndrome or cerebral palsy may have problems with muscular control, they often have problems with utterance, which may also hinder communication, therefore the language hat is also applied on them sometimes
